Filmmaking and release has become considerably easier in recent years. That's perhaps the most obvious reason. From the late 1990s onward, more and more films were shot digitally instead of on celluloid, and shortly thereafter, cinemas also switched to digital projection. This made everything much cheaper and less labor-intensive. And thanks to social media, marketing, for example, is also much cheaper. Moreover, films now have shorter runs because they quickly go to streamers. This also frees up space in cinemas.
