Minecraft Movie

Bad reviews The game journalist does not have high expectations for the film adaptation of Minecraft, although he can see from the first images that it was made with love for the game. His opinion is shared by many reviewers. For example, the film received bad reviews in The Guardian and The New York Times. The reactions fit in with the idea that game films rarely receive positive reviews. Whether it matters much to the makers in Hollywood, Vorstermans finds it difficult to say. "At the end of the day, they guarantee success and a lot of money is made."

The new Snow White

Why is Disney’s Snow White Under Fire? The controversy surrounding the film began before a trailer was released. Disney decided to give a modern twist to the classic fairy tale, which did not go down well with everyone. Actress Rachel Zegler, a Latina, was cast as Snow White, which led to discussions about staying true to the original. Snow White is no longer kissed awake by the prince, because the filmmakers consider this an outdated and problematic element.

Psycho trailer

Psycho is now considered one of Hitchcock's best films, and is arguably his most famous and influential work. It has been hailed as a major work of cinematic art by international film critics and scholars who praise its slick direction, tense atmosphere, impressive camerawork, memorable score and iconic performances. It is regarded as "the most heavily analyzed film in the long career of the most investigated director in the history of American film" and often ranked among the greatest films of all time. It set a new level of acceptability for violence, deviant behavior and sexuality in American films, and has been considered to be one of the earliest examples of the slasher film genre.

The Brutalist cineast

In photography and cinematography, available light (also called ambient light or practical light) refers to any source of light that is not explicitly supplied by the photographer for the purpose of taking pictures. The term usually refers to light sources in the surrounding environment that are present naturally (such as sunlight or moonlight) or artificial lighting that is already pre-existing (such as street lights or room lights). It generally excludes flashes, although arguably flash lighting provided by other photographers shooting simultaneously in the same space could be considered available light. Light sources that affect the scene and are included in the actual frame are called practical light sources, or simply practicals.

Timesquare

The term speed comes from the early days of photography. Photographic emulsions that were more sensitive to light needed less time to generate an acceptable image and thus a complete exposure could be finished faster, with the subjects having to hold still for a shorter length of time. Emulsions that were less sensitive were deemed "slower" as the time to complete an exposure was much longer and often usable only for still life photography. Exposure times for photographic emulsions shortened from hours to fractions of a second by the late 19th century.

The Brutalist film

The Brutalist employed VistaVision and 70mm film formats to achieve its unique aesthetic.

Here’s the summary of their use: VistaVision was chosen for its wider frame, allowing the filmmakers to emphasize the expansive architectural elements central to the film’s themes. This format provided a horizontal film plane, resulting in detailed and sweeping visuals that feel immersive and epic. 70mm film was used to enhance the rich textures and depth of field, creating a cinematic experience that feels both grand and intimate. The format’s ability to capture fine details and vibrant colors supported the film’s goal of blending timeless visual grandeur with modern storytelling. Together, these formats allowed the team to craft a visually striking piece, combining classic film techniques with contemporary narrative ambitions. This meticulous choice of format aligned with director Brady Corbet’s vision of creating a modern cinematic epic.

Pulp fiction

Tarantino wrote Pulp Fiction in 1992 and 1993,The film is also self-referential from its opening moments, beginning with a title card that gives two dictionary definitions of "pulp". Considerable screen time is devoted to monologues and casual conversations with eclectic dialogue revealing each character's perspectives on several subjects, and the film features an ironic combination of humor and strong violence. Pulp Fiction is widely regarded as Tarantino's magnum opus, with particular praise for its screenwriting. The self-reflexivity, unconventional structure, and extensive homage and pastiche have led critics to describe it as a touchstone of postmodern film

Remember David Lynch

David Lynch grew up in Philadelphia, where he initially tried to make it as a painter. After having worn out numerous art schools, he started working with film. This is how his first major project Eraserhead came about, about a monster baby – which was supposedly made from a cow fetus. The rather shocking film was strangely enough a huge success and the appreciation of Stanley Kubrick gave it instant cult status. The general public got to know Lynch through The Elephant Man, about a man who is horribly deformed and therefore portrayed as a freak. It earned Lynch eight Oscar nominations, of which he managed to cash in none. But the dark TV series Twin Peaks about the missing Laura Palmer is probably the best known. In 2017, the cult series even got a third season.

Polavision

Unlike other motion picture film stock of the time, Polavision film reproduces color by the additive method, like the much earlier Dufaycolor film. In essence, it consists of a black-and-white emulsion on a film base covered with microscopically narrow red, green and blue filter stripes. It was instant in the sense that it could be very quickly and easily developed in the Polavision processing unit after it was removed from the Polavision camera, ready for viewing in only a few minutes.

Lost media: filmstrips

The 35mm filmstrip, which showed a series of still images often with an accompanying commentary, was one of the most versatile, popular and well-travelled media forms in the mid-20th century, deployed in education, industry, by church groups and governments. Yet despite its widespread use – from rural communities in Scotland to government health campaigns across the British Empire – the filmstrip is often forgotten today, both by the archives that hold these materials and the scholars, educationalists and media practitioners that might use them. The Lost World of Filmstrips seeks to locate, uncover and  examine this “lost” media form.”

Viewing editing

The film editor works with raw footage, selecting shots and combining them into sequences which create a finished motion picture. Film editing is described as an art or skill, the only art that is unique to cinema, separating filmmaking from other art forms that preceded it, although there are close parallels to the editing process in other art forms such as poetry and novel writing. Film editing is an extremely important tool when attempting to intrigue a viewer. When done properly, a film's editing can captivate a viewer and fly completely under the radar. Because of this, film editing has been given the name “the invisible art.”

Movie-Drome

Stanley Kubrick

Between 1945 and 1950, Stanley Kubrick was a staff photographer for LOOK magazine. In 1946, the 17-year-old trained his camera on people riding the New York Subway. “I wanted to retain the mood of the subway, so I used natural light,” he said. People who ride the subway late at night are less inhibited than those who ride by day. Couples make love openly, drunks sleep on the floor and other unusual activities take place late at night. To make pictures in the off-guard manner he wanted to, Kubrick rode the subway for two weeks. Half of his riding was done between midnight and six.

Sound of Fleischer

Fleischer Studios was an American animation studio founded in 1929 by brothers Max and Dave Fleischer, who ran the pioneering company from its inception until its acquisition by Paramount Pictures, the parent company and the distributor of its films. In its prime, Fleischer Studios was a premier producer of animated cartoons for theaters, with Walt Disney Productions being its chief competitor in the 1930s. Before the popularization of television, cartoons in the 1920s and 30s were theatrically presented before full length features for all audiences. To contend with Walt Disney’s stronghold on animated shorts, Paramount Pictures became the distributor for Fleischer Studios in 1929. Run by brothers Max, Dave and Lou Fleischer, the animation studio had been making a name for itself as a pioneer of synchronized sound technology. Despite popular belief, Disney was not the first studio to release a sync sound cartoon. Fleischer Studios had released the first cartoon attempting synchronized sound in 1926—two years before Disney’s “Steamboat Willy.” Quickly, the Fleischers’ technological innovations, eclectic characters and music established the brand as one of Disney’s main rivals, making Popeye and Betty Boop household names.

Radioman

Radio is the technology of communicating using radio waves. Radio waves are electromagnetic waves of frequency between 3 hertz (Hz) and 300 gigahertz (GHz). They are generated by an electronic device called a transmitter connected to an antenna which radiates oscillating electrical energy, often characterized as a wave. They can be received by other antennas connected to a radio receiver, this is the fundamental principle of radio communication. In addition to communication, radio is used for radar, radio navigation, remote control, remote sensing, and other applications.

Doggy

The musical film was a natural development of the stage musical after the emergence of sound film technology. Typically, the biggest difference between film and stage musicals is the use of lavish background scenery and locations that would be impractical in a theater. Musical films characteristically contain elements reminiscent of theater; performers often treat their song and dance numbers as if a live audience were watching. In a sense, the viewer becomes the diegetic audience, as the performer looks directly into the camera and performs to it.
