According to the media scholar, franchise fatigue has now become a reality. Major film series are getting so many sequels that some audiences are losing interest. "A reissue of the first Alien has a much greater appeal than yet another clone. It also evokes a sense of nostalgia."
It's not just old Hollywood productions returning to the big screen. The
Netherlands Film Fund speaks of "a larger European trend toward re-releasing restored classics and re-releases of older, successful films."
