What is La Sirène?
La Sirène is a short silent film in which Méliès uses his typical movie tricks:
A woman turns into a mermaid (or vice versa)
Widese use of disappearance and appearance effects
Theater-like sets and costumes
He made these kinds of effects with techniques such as:
stop-motion (camera stop and restart)
double exposure
smart assembly
Why is this special?
Georges Méliès is seen as one of the founders of special effects in film. His work, as well as Le Voyage dans la Lune, later inspired the entire film industry.
