Burgos is located in the Castile-Leon region, in the middle of the fertile North Castilian plateau (900 m altitude), on both sides of the Río Arlanzón, which divides the city in two. No fewer than 8 bridges connect the city! The first bridge was built in 1200 for pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela. To the east of the city lies the natural beauty of the Sierra de la Demanda. To the west of the city is the famous Las Huelgas monastery (see below under history), with which the city forms a fundamental connection on the Pilgrims' Route
