The Dutch Cheese Museum, founded in 1983, is housed in the monumental Weigh house, in the centre of Alkmaar; a city famous for its cheese. The museum presents remarkable objects which richly illustrate the history of cheese making, farming culture and dairy trade. The collection includes historical artefacts and utensils, photographic images and film. Paintings are also exhibited, including twenty-four 16th century portraits of women from Holland. There has been a full redesign in 2014 that ables the museum to present the history of Dutch cheese in a more elaborate way.
