In 1921 Mazairac became national champion for the amateur sprinters for the first time. He also came second in the championship over 30 km, at which distance he won the title a year later. The Netherlands had many great sprinters in the twenties and Mazairac played a full part in the amateurs. He also won the title in 1925, 1927 and 1929. In the intervening years he was second.
In 1923 he was sent to a world championship for the first time. Behind the Frenchman Michard he finished second, as he did two years later in Amsterdam, now behind his compatriot Jaap Meyer.
